SAIL in 2025 – Year in Review (Part 2)

Over the course of the year, SAIL showcased its breadth and strong connection to both the scientific community and the public.

🌍 SAIL research around the world

Throughout the year, SAIL members presented their work at international conferences across disciplines, including ESWC in Portorož (Slovenia), OR in Bielefeld (Germany), and ICSR + AI in Naples (Italy). We are proud of the many talks, publications, and posters that showcased SAIL research and fostered lively discussions within the research community.

🧠 Exploring Human–LLM interaction

In August, we organised the interdisciplinary workshop “Jailbreaking and other Creative Practices in Human-LLM Interaction” at Bielefeld University. Researchers from across Europe came together to critically reflect on how humans and large language models interact, from conceptual questions to design challenges around responsibility and control.

🎤 Science meets society: “AI vs Mind”

A particular highlight was the Science Slam “AI vs Mind”, held in September at Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld as part of GENIALE 2025. Around 200 visitors experienced an evening where AI, science, music, humor, and creativity came together. The event moved beyond the idea of competition between humans and AI, focusing instead on collaboration, reflection, and responsible use.

🔬 Hands-on AI at Science Speed Dating

In October, our Science Speed Dating event invited visitors of all ages to experience research first-hand at Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld. Interactive demonstrators – from robotics and explainable AI to social robotics and smart environments – made sustainable AI tangible and sparked dialogue between researchers and the public.

Altogether, these activities reflect what SAIL is about: strong research, critical discussion, and open exchange with society. 🤝
